Seattle Black Pride co-sponsors American Heritage Series with CD Forum for Arts & Ideas - December 6, 2007

The role of African- American LGBTQ people in History... Where were we, and where are we now?

American Heritage Series is an ongoing series of lectures and discussions that offer new perspectives on the role of African-Americans in American History. The role of the African-American LGBTQ community in American, African-American and LGBTQ history is virtually hidden. In many cases this history has been either deliberately left out or misinterpreted. Acknowledging the depth and breadth of LGBTQ African-Americans in our history completes us. From culture to politics, their role has been significant. Join the CD Forum and Seattle Black Pride as we discuss this hidden and unspoken history locally and nationally. Info: www.cdforum.org or call 206-323-4032

Tickets: $7/$5 for CD Forum and SBP members/students/seniors
Seattle Black Pride co-presents DL Chronicles with Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival - October 14, 2007

Two new episodes are here!

TV’s smart, funny, and provocative television series THE DL CHRONICLES introduce a pair of gorgeous men living secret, sexual lives. Boo is an ex-convict who can’t (much to the frustration of his girlfriend) change his lying and cheating ways. He continues to hook up with various sexual partners in several steamy encounters. When Boo suffers some sobering consequences of his actions, he’s finally forced to take a serious look at his life. In the newest episode, Mark faces the absurd reality of living on the down low in his own home when he asks his boyfriend to pretend to be his roommate when his cousin comes to stay. Boldly dealing with the complex issue of men on the DL, these new episodes inspire discussion within communities of color while providing unadulterated, joyous entertainment.

Copresented by Seattle Black Pride Committee
Guests in attendance

AFTERPARTY - The VIP door is open to you at this post-screening reception with THE DL CHRONICLES directors Deondray Gossett and Quincy Le Near. 22 Doors, 405 15th Ave E.

SBP Theatre Night - Before It Hits Home - March 3, 2007

Join us for a Theatre night Saturday, March 3rd at 7:30PM; tickets only $10. All proceeds from this night support Seattle
Black Pride 2007. We want a full house, so make sure to tell your friends!

Brownbox Theatre presents a new production of Before It Hits Home by Cheryl West, as conceived and directed
by Artistic Director Tyrone Brown. The production opens Saturday, March 3, and runs through March 25, 2007 at the Rainier
Valley Cultural Center in Southeast Seattle; proceed from the opening night will go to Seattle Black Pride 2007.

Before It Hits Home follows the last few months in the life of Wendal Bailey, an African-American man in his
early 30's. After nearly dying of AIDS, he comes home to his extended family—his mother, father, "aunt", brother
and 12-year-old son—for a festive evening that turns into a disaster. Shortly after this debacle, the only support
and love he finds comes from an unexpected source—his previously stern, disapproving and homophobic father.

"Before It Hits Home is not a play about victimization... It is instead an authentic, at times almost hysterical
make-up call to the Black community, sounded from within." The New York Times.

Before It Hits Home was originally workshopped by the Seattle Group Theatre in conjunction with its Multicultural
    Playwright's Festival in 1989.

Before It Hits Home author Cheryl West is an award winning playwright and Seattle resident. Playwriting credits include
Jar The Floor, Puddin 'n Pete, Rejoice, and Holiday Heart (the film version of Holiday Heart starred Ving Rhames and
Alfre Woodard). Awards include the National Endowment for the Arts Playwriting Award, the Multicultural Playwright's
Festival Award and Helen Hayes-Charles McArthur Award.

Before It Hits Home director Tyrone Brown is the Founder and Artistic Director of Brownbox. Directing credits include
the original production of Black To My Roots, Wreck The Airline Barrier by Adriano Shaplin, The Vagina
Monologues by Eve Ensler, and Hamlet X: The Tragedy of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. He holds a Bachelors of Arts
in Theatre from Western Washington University.

Before It Hits Home features the talents of 10 local Seattle actors and actresses. The creative team includes costume
design by Avianca Walker, lighting design by Brendon Orth-Sheridan, set design by Awet Beraki, and an original soundtrack by
    Stuart McLeod.

                available for purchase.

Book Description

THE NECESSARY HUNGER! A foreign phrase to sedate English professor, Olivia Anderson, unless one were
referring to food and such. However, Olivia learns the erotic meaning when she's enticed to take a
walk on the wild side and attends an all male revue with a distinct urban edge. There, hidden desires
are brought forth especially by one dancer known only as Flava. Returning from her adventure only
slightly singed, Professor Anderson gets the shock of her life the first day of the semester when
none other than Flava is sitting front and center in her classroom.

From that point on, Olivia's world becomes a roller coaster ride of self-discovery where she will
either face her deepest fears and possibly discover the love of her life...or endure great anguish.

About the Author

Author, Edwina Martin-Arnold, remembers her mother's proclamation made long ago. "You're either going
to be a lawyer or a writer because you're always debating with me about something or scribbling in a
notebook." Edwina's mother knew her well because with the publication of Eve's Prescription, Edwina
has become both an attorney and an author.

Edwina was born in Texas and grew up in Washington State. She attended the University of Washington
where she met and married her husband, John. After working for two years as a buyer at Boeing, Edwina
left to attend law school at the University of Puget Sound. Upon graduation, Edwina became a prosecutor.
She enjoyed a seven-year career before she left to spend more time with her three children. It was during
this time that Edwina was able to fulfill her life long fantasy of becoming a romance writer. She is
currently working on her fifth book.
