I would just like to share my experience being a part of this year's 2nd Annual Seattle Black Pride's Pride event. I knew that I would enjoy the weekend of events which started on Thursday July 19th. Even more enjoyable was the opportunity for me to serve my community in such fulfilling ways and to witness my community having a good, safe time.
Let me tell you, I can't remember when I had this much fun! This year I went to every event, which were all well attended. People were just having a great time. I'm so proud to be part of an organization that cares about the community—as I do—and all the wonderful diverse people we serve and support. SBP is aware of the importance of allies and it was clear in the crowds that there are many allies out there who support our causes. To you: we greatly appreciate your support.
Support doesn't necessarily mean you had to be there; it does mean at least going to our website, to see the work we do and the visions we have as an organization. If you do that, I would hope you could see where you fit into this vision even if it's supporting an organization like Multifaith Works in one of their many programs. You can become a member of a CareTeam. The CareTeam is a program designed to group community members together to be involved in an individual's life that lives with HIV/AIDS. I lead a CareTeam consisting of SBP Board members/staff and community members and would love to speak with anyone who wants to know more about this program.
I have witnessed the value in serving and empowering others to be their best and giving strength and hope for people in need to move to that next level. Seattle Black Pride’s yearly Pride Event is definitely a great way for community members to get involved in the Gay Black Community and Gay Community at large.
I took tons of pictures and at some point soon you can see them on our site. The pictures speak a thousand words and my short videos are also really nice. Never know, I might have some of you if you were there. :-)
As a community member, I just want to thank all SBP Board Members, Staff, Community Volunteers and the Sponsors that give us their support.
Please look forward to my event breakdown post!
